Instrument pairs in Music Instruments Challenge

Postby ppp » Sat Jan 22, 2011 4:32 pm

Hello,
In training data of mixed instruments:
1) there are samples of only several of possible combinations of instruments. Is the test data also limited to those combinations, or any pair is possible?
2) there are both pairs (Accordian,DoubleBass) and (DoubleBass,Accordian). Does it mean any difference in a way the data was created? Will it matter in test data?

best regards,
Peter

1) I don't know.

2) Looks like the order doesn't matter. Referring to the webpage, "Solution should be a text file containing one pair of labels per line. The names of the instruments in each line can be in any order and should be separated by a comma."

Thanks,

Hello,

1) In fact, only the pairs that do not appear in the training set can occur in the test dataset (quoting the task description, "Note that test and training sets contain different pairs of instruments (i.e. the pairs from the training set do not occur in the test set)").

2) As orgpark already noted, it will not matter in test data.
