Explaination of Parameters (Genre Analysis)

Postby mentalrai » Wed Jan 12, 2011 6:35 pm

Please, could you explain the provided parameters a little more in detail as far as I see "Data understanding" as essential in this task. I´m not an audio specialist but like to get into what I am supposed to explain.

1) In task "Genre" especially parameter p) would be of interest for me: "dedicated parameters in time domain based of the analysis of the distribution of the envelope in relation to the rms value."

I understand this parameter as a sum of the number of used frequency envelopes in relation to square root of the number of used frequency envelopes. Kind of correlation between the single frequency envelopes?

2) In task "Genre" which parameter stands for bpm or any kind of speed in musik? Is this a), b) and c)? (Temporal centroid statistics) Or is it only a)?

Dear contestants

'Dedicated parameters in time domain based on analysis of the distribution of the envelope in relation to the rms value' are threshold parameters.
There are some variations of them, for example:
The thresold is set to 1rms, 2 rms, 3rms and the number of samples exceeding those thresholds is counted up and divided by the total number of samples in the frame.
This is done for different parts of the frames that are analyzed. The parameters from this group can be correlated.

There are no parameters related to the bpm, the focus has been put on the timbre characteristics and the the parameters described above.

kind regards and good luck
