Task3 - GPS How to calculate the average velocity?

Postby Mars_911 » Fri Jul 16, 2010 3:31 am

Hi,
The GPS task needs to predict average velocity of vehicles passing 100 selected road segments in 6-minute time periods , I'd like to know how to calculate the average velocity ?
I presume to use the sum of all the velocities of vehicles in 6-minute time periods to divide the number of the vehicles .
Thanks.

Hello,

It is a simple arithmetic mean: for each road segment the sum of the velocities of vehicles that passed through it during the given period is divided by the total number of vehicles.

Hi,

I must correct that answer:
The average velocity is a harmonic average of velocities of all cars that passed through a given road segment in 6-minute time period.
